Sarah Petla Assaad is a Chicago based multidisciplinary artist. She actively creates and supports new works for a new era of theatre centered around queer and BIPOC stories. She accomplishes this by exploring theatre through the lens of activism and defying societal expectations. By uplifting queer and BIPOC peoples' real experiences, she achieves her goal of creating space for tomorrow's theatre.

Sarah began the societal and political exploration of theatre while getting her bachelors degree from the University of California, Davis. Her passion for this work was inspired by devised and experimental theatre. In this, she began to wonder what if all theatre had an agenda? When will commercial American theatre discover the value in accurate representation?

Years later Sarah is still asking these questions. While the US regresses, art must progress and create safe spaces for truth and exploration.

* Tomorrow’s theatre - It is a constant projected goal. As theatre is ever evolving, I support artistry that evolves with the political and social advances of the my community. I want stage performances  to bring  all types of bodies, identities, and stories to light. Tomorrow’s theatre does not dismiss real BIPOC/LGBTQ+ stories.
